about

Traffic on the new Walterdale Bridge, canoes on the North Saskatchewan, Metis Fiddle music, Powwow dance music, French folk song, jazz, and the sounds of the natural environment of the River Valley: all these and more come together in the River Crossing Soundscape Project.

Through a series of workshops and consultations with area residents and traditional musicians the Schoen Duo have constructed a soundscape which evokes the rich cultural tapestry of the River Crossing area of Edmonton.

The River Crossings Soundscape Project was a performance created with a grant from the Edmonton Heritage Council and Edmonton Arts Council. The goal of the project was to create a soundscape that was informed by the heritage of the River Crossing area of Edmonton, Alberta, which was the site of the original Fort Edmonton, as well as the site of much human activity long before the fort was there.

about

Schoen Duo Edmonton, Alberta

The music of the Schoen Duo dances over the boundary between classical and folk music through the ages. As we explore the roots of music, the boundaries between musical genres fade and the music becomes timeless. Our presentations have an intimacy that brings audiences close to the creative source of the music.
